Poem: Prisoner to Pain

PrisonertoPain

Prisoner to Pain

The deep pull from within her soul,
the feelings that got buried
and locked away…

Kept them from surfacing,
so they couldn’t see the
growing pain behind the glow in her loving eyes.

The smile on her soft face,
the ring in her joyful laughs,
She hid every dark memory,
to show nothing but
a peaceful grace…

There was nothing worse
than becoming a prisoner
to pain…

Every day, she walked towards a warm loving sun,
there was no way, she’d ever let
anybody know, how behind it all,
how she had actually become undone.

There was nothing worse,
than becoming a prisoner to pain.

Every heartbeat,
every secret defeat.
She battled each day,
because if otherwise,
she knew she would pay.

There was nothing worse
than becoming a prisoner to pain.

Late at night,
laying awake,
when she thought everything was alright,
She was actually lost in her mind
by the burden of fright…

What if this was her last day?
Could she leave, feeling
That her life was okay?

Tears would strike
like a sharp knife…
The stab in her heart…

There was nothing worse,
than becoming a prisoner to pain.

So many hide behind a wall,
You don’t know the secrets
that keep them awake.
Those that continue to call.

The strength that kept her upon her feet,
to hide the defeat…
Not everyone knew
Some had no clue.

She’d rather smile,
and stay upon stage,
portraying happiness for awhile.

There was nothing worse,
than becoming a prisoner to pain.

It was better, staying silent,
only allowing some to enter in.
She lived a life,
where others have been,
but too ashamed,
for admittance.

There was nothing worse,
than becoming a prisoner to pain.

Her eyes sparkled with laughter,
She smiled to those who would meet her.
Telling jokes
and making everybody feel better,
to those she spoke…

Never once had she revealed,
the darkness that held her captive…

There was nothing worse,
than becoming a prisoner to pain.

Inside, she lives within herself,
fighting battles where only
love can heal all that she has
to gain…

She won’t be taken down,
she won’t be a prisoner
She won’t be bound…

The world won’t see
The hidden pain that one day will be set free.
Nobody will ever know,
the demons
that once had let be.

There was nothing worse,
than becoming a prisoner to pain.

“Within the depths of our mind, we are battling the duel of light and darkness…good and evil…love and hate…” Between Light and Darkness is Ariana’s most recent collection of poetry… Cherry’s frequent message she delivers throughout her work is, “The journey through the darkness, back into the light.” Her hope is to let others know that they won’t be in that place of darkness for long – that they indeed can reach the light once again…She also wants her readers to know – that – it is okay if they find themselves in that bleak blackness…Sometimes we feel guilty for going to that dark place – but it is necessary to conquer the demons that battle our souls…. Other books that Cherry has written include "Only If" and "Twisted Paths Poetry." Her epic tale, “Only If,” won the “Reader’s Favorite Award” and a 5 star review…and her collection, “Twisted Paths Poetry,” received a 5 star review from Realistic Poetry International. She has been writing ever since she was a child. Some of her inspirations include Edgar Allen Poe, Robert Frost, Stephen King, Emily Dickinson, Christopher Pike and Shel Silverstein. Ariana writes a variety of genres: inspirational, humorous and horror – although writing horror is one of her favorites…. She was 12 years old when she read Poe for the very first time – which inspired her epic poetry tale, “Only If.“ During other parts of her free time, she enjoys taking photos and creating art. Her “day-jobs” include working as a church administrative aide and reporting for a local newspaper.
