SILENT CHURCH
In the darkness of a dim-lighted sanctuary,
A lightness hangs in the cool air…
Memories of years past,
those who once sat there,
chattering in the pews.
Or the uplifting singing voices
that filled the Sunday air….
I stand alone in the middle of the empty aisle,
waiting to hear a voice,
for a gesture,
for a healing touch…
God,
Sometimes I look for you.
Waiting,
I need you so much…
A light surrounds the wooden cross,
and I silently praise love
from the depths of my heart,
as I want to hear you,
in the darkness of a dim-lighted sanctuary.
The air is cold,
the memories…
seem so broken…
so old
in the darkness of a dim-lighted sanctuary.
I touch the smooth edges of the wooden cross,
wondering where have all the people gone,
They seemed to have gotten lost.
God, they don’t find you there anymore.
The walls-
they’ve gotten too small.
Restrictions, government, rules-
The agony….
It’s scared us all.
I stand,
in the middle of the aisle,
still waiting
Because of my undying faith.
The air,
It’s so cold.
But this old place,
somehow,
it always felt like home…
But God-
I think they forgot to give You a key…
Those people, they’ve forgotten
All the places You can be.
The people seemed to
have uninvited You from the
home we once known,
They need to be reminded,
You are everywhere around us.
You never left…
It was the people
who raised injustice
I’ll carry you in when I arrive,
Just like those times,
you carried us through the sand
during the high tide.
In the darkness of a dim-lighted sanctuary,
A lightness hangs in the cool air.
God, in my heart, I’ll keep you,
because no matter where I am at in life,
I know you are always there…
